Dr. Jonathan Misch is a board-certified periodontist and dental implant surgeon based in Michigan. His clinical work centers on implant surgery, advanced bone augmentation, and soft-tissue reconstruction — planned prosthetically, executed gently, and designed for decades of stability. As CEO of the Misch Implant Institute, he leads the teaching institution his father founded, and his research on peri-implant tissue stability is shaping how the specialty prevents bone loss around implants.
Dr. Misch earned his DDS at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, then stayed in Ann Arbor for specialty training, completing his MS in Periodontics in the Department of Periodontics & Oral Medicine. His master's thesis — on how abutment height and restoration emergence angle drive peri-implant bone loss — took first prize at the Midwest Society of Periodontology Graduate Research Competition and was a Finalist for the highest award in clinical research, the Balint Orban Award. These contributed to receiving the Dr. Khalid Sinjab Chief Resident Award in his final year.
Before dentistry, he completed his undergraduate degree at Michigan State University — where he started at linebacker on the 2010 Big Ten Championship football team, and later appeared as a castaway on Season 29 of CBS's Survivor: Blood vs Water. In the state's oldest rivalry his loyalty is undivided — Spartan, always. Michigan earned his gratitude in the dental school, not the stadium.
His surgical practice concentrates on dental implant surgery and the reconstruction that makes it possible: complex vertical guided bone regeneration, Khoury autogenous grafting, sinus augmentation, and soft-tissue grafting. Every case is planned from the final restoration backward — a prosthetically driven, evidence-based approach aimed at long-term implant and periodontal health rather than short-term convenience.
He treats patients at Pinckney Implants & Periodontics, his primary practice, and operates as a visiting periodontist at partner offices in Plymouth, Sterling Heights, and Ann Arbor — bringing specialty surgery into the practices of the dentists who refer to him.
As CEO of the Misch Implant Institute since 2023 — and a board member since 2017 — Dr. Misch leads course development, faculty coordination, and the institute's expansion into international live-surgery programs, lecturing regularly across its five-session implant continuum. He has presented from the main podium of the ICOI World Congress and serves on the ICOI Board of Directors.
He has authored 14 peer-reviewed publications on peri-implant tissue stability — including the PROS and MICH concepts — and reviews for the Journal of Periodontology, Clinical Oral Implants Research, Clinical Implant Dentistry & Related Research, and the International Journal of Oral Implantology.
